Self-Criticism

Since we strive to be perfect, but never quite make it, self-criticism comes easily to us. Sometimes we believe the lie that this is ok. Since we sinned, we should feel guilty and beat ourselves up. We don't want God to think we're soft on sin. However, this is not a good habit to get into. Self-criticism leads to low self-esteem, which can lead to depression if it becomes a habit. 1John 3:18-20 says, "My dear children, let's not just talk about love; let's practice real love. This is the only way we'll know we're living truly, living in God's reality. It's also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves." Decide to trust God and follow His commands, and He will take away your negative thoughts about yourself.
