Judges 3:7-9

The Israelites did evil in the L ord ’s sight. They forgot about the L ord  their God, and they served the images of Baal and the Asherah poles.  Then the L ord  burned with anger against Israel, and he turned them over to King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim.  And the Israelites served Cushan-rishathaim for eight years. But when the people of Israel cried out to the L ord  for help, the L ord  raised up a rescuer to save them. His name was Othniel, the son of Caleb’s younger brother, Kenaz. (Judges 3:7-9 NLT)

Judges 3:1, 2, 4

These are the nations that the L ord  left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan.  He did this to teach warfare to generations of Israelites who had no experience in battle.  These people were left to test the Israelites—to see whether they would obey the commands the L ord  had given to their ancestors through Moses. (Judges 3:1, 2, 4 NLT)

Galatians 5:16-23

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.  The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.  But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,  idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,  envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Joel2:25-27

The L ord  says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you. Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the L ord  your God, who does these miracles for you. Never again will my people be disgraced. Then you will know that I am among my people Israel, that I am the L ord  your God, and there is no other. Never again will my people be disgraced. (Joel 2:25-27 NLT)

Isaiah 44:21, 22

“Pay attention, O Jacob, for you are my servant, O Israel. I, the L ord , made you, and I will not forget you. I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free.” (Isaiah 44:21, 22 NLT)

Proverbs 4:14-16, 18, 20-23, 26

Don’t do as the wicked do, and don’t follow the path of evildoers. Don’t even think about it; don’t go that way. Turn away and keep moving. For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble. The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Proverbs 3:7, 8, 13, 14, 16, 17

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the L ord  and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. (Proverbs 3:7, 8, 13, 14, 16, 17 NLT)
