It may seem that those who are poor and needy have been forgotten, but God will not forget them. He will not leave them without hope. (‭Psalms‬ ‭9‬:‭18‬ ERV)

Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭12-14‬

The angel said, “Don’t kill your son or hurt him in any way. Now I can see that you do respect and obey God. I see that you are ready to kill your son, your only son, for me.” Then Abraham noticed a ram whose horns were caught in a bush. So Abraham went and took the ram. He offered it, instead of his son, as a sacrifice to God. So Abraham gave that place a name, “The Lord Provides.” Even today people say, “On the mountain of the Lord, he will give us what we need.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭12-14‬ ERV)

Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭6

Abram believed the Lord, and because of this faith the Lord accepted him as one who has done what is right. (‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭6‬ ERV)

Psalms‬ ‭5‬:‭4-5, 7-8, 11-12‬

God, you don’t want evil people near you. They cannot stay in your presence. Fools cannot come near you. You hate those who do evil.

But by your great mercy, I can enter your house. I can worship in your holy Temple with fear and respect for you. Lord, show me your right way of living, and make it easy for me to follow. People are looking for my weaknesses, so show me how you want me to live.

But let those who trust in you be happy forever. Protect and strengthen those who love your name. Lord, when you bless good people, you surround them with your love, like a large shield that protects them. (‭Psalms‬ ‭5‬:‭4-5, 7-8, 11-12‬ ERV)

Psalms‬ ‭4‬:‭3-4, 8

You can be sure that anyone who serves the Lord faithfully is special to him. The Lord listens when I pray to him. Tremble with fear, and stop sinning. Think about this when you go to bed, and calm down. Selah

When I go to bed, I sleep in peace, because, Lord, you keep me safe. (‭Psalms‬ ‭4‬:‭3-4, 8‬ ERV)

Psalms‬ ‭3‬:‭5-6‬

I can lie down to rest and know that I will wake up, because the Lord covers and protects me. So I will not be afraid of my enemies, even if thousands of them surround me. (‭Psalms‬ ‭3‬:‭5-6‬ ERV)

Why are the nations so angry? Why are the people making such foolish plans?

They say, “Let’s rebel against them. Let’s break free from them!” But the one who rules in heaven laughs at them. The Lord makes fun of them. (‭Psalms‬ ‭2‬:‭1, 3-4‬ ERV)

James‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬

You know how we call those blessed (happy) who were steadfast [who endured]. ‭2 Kings‬ ‭3‬:‭17-20

I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.” But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the LORD sends rain and the crops grow again!” So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days. Joshua‬ ‭17‬:‭18‬

Deuteronomy‬ ‭20‬:‭1-4‬

“When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you! When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops. He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the LORD your God is going with you! Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭18-25

And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.
