and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.

and drew near the gates of death.

and he saved them from their distress.

20He sent forth his word and healed them;

he rescued them from the grave.

21Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love

and his wonderful deeds for men.

22Let them sacrifice thank offerings

and tell of his works with songs of joy.

43Whoever is wise, let him heed these things

and consider the great love of the Lord.

Romans 10:9-11

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

Job 19:25-27

25I know that my Redeemer^c lives,

Isaiah 7:7-9

Psalm 77:20-24

20Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter,

Isaiah 66:1-2, 5

1This is what the Lord says:

“Heaven is my throne,

and the earth is my footstool.

Where is the house you will build for me?

declares the Lord.

“This is the one I esteem:

he who is humble and contrite in spirit,

and trembles at my word. 

5Hear the word of the Lord,

you who tremble at his word:

“Your brothers who hate you,

and exclude you because of my name, have said,

‘Let the Lord be glorified,

that we may see your joy!’

Yet they will be put to shame.

Psalm 91:1-11, 14-16

4He will cover you with his feathers,

and under his wings you will find refuge;

his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

nor the arrow that flies by day,

I will deliver him and honor him.

16With long life will I satisfy him

and show him my salvation.”

Psalm 86:1-7

1Hear, O Lord, and answer me,

for I am poor and needy.

2Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.

You are my God; save your servant

who trusts in you.

3Have mercy on me, O Lord,

for I call to you all day long.

4Bring joy to your servant,

for to you, O Lord,

Psalm 91:9-16

John 6:35-40

35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. 36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Isaiah 3:10-11

10Tell the righteous it will be well with them,

for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.

11Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them!

They will be paid back for what their hands have done.

Psalms 81:13-16

13“If my people would but listen to me,

if Israel would follow my ways,

14how quickly would I subdue their enemies

and turn my hand against their foes!

15Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him,

and their punishment would last forever.

16But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;

with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

Psalm 50:14-15

your God will come,

Malachi 1:1-5

Jacob Loved, Esau Hated

2“I have loved you,” says the Lord.

“But you ask, ‘How have you loved us?’

“Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” the Lord says. “Yet I have loved Jacob, 3but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his mountains into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.”

4Edom may say, “Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.”

But this is what the Lord Almighty says: “They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord. 5You will see it with your own eyes and say, ‘Great is the Lord—even beyond the borders of Israel!’

Psalm 86:15-17

15But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,

slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

16Turn to me and have mercy on me;

grant your strength to your servant

and save the son of your maidservant.^b

17Give me a sign of your goodness,

that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,

for you, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me

John 3:16-18

16“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,^f that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son."

Matthew 16:24-27

24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Romans 10:10-11

6I do not trust in my bow,

my sword does not bring me victory;
